Many exclusively pumping moms use the “pitcher method” and get to simplify their feeding routine.
What is the Pitcher Method?
Simply collecting all your pumped milk from the day in a pitcher so that you can prepare next day’s bottles or use it as needed.
Any left over milk can be put into breast milk storage bags and frozen.
What container should you use? Look for this:
✅A lid to protect the milk
✅Made from glass or food grade plastic
✅Ability to hold between 28-64 ounces
✅An easy pour spout, so that you don’t lose any milk when transferring it to bottles
👉🏻Examples: What container should you use?
My favourites:
1. Dr Brown’s Formula Mixing Pitcher (32oz)
2. Rubbermaid MixerMate (32oz)
3. Shaker Blender Bottles (28oz)
Look for this:

✅Made from glass or food grade plastic
✅Ability to hold between 28-64 ounces
✅An easy pour spout, so that you don’t lose any milk when transferring it to bottles
💡Tips:
💛Label your container with the date of the oldest milk, and remember that breast milk is good for 4-8 days in the fridge
💛Swirl the container so that your milk is well balanced.
💛Use a silicone spatula to scrape off any fat stuck to the sides
*Note: The recommendation when mixing milk used to be to make sure that the temperature of the milk that you are combining is all the same – usually, all chilled. However, the AAP recently updated their guidelines on this to state that mixing warm and cold milk is acceptable, but ABM hasn’t made any statement about this
